Help Required on 3D Stack Its

Not sure if i am putting this in the right section but i am after some help.

I have purchased a couple of '3D Stack It's as there was a lovely picture of some puppies & i thought get it for a friend of mine who has just got a puppy.

Now i know that i have to cut out each item and stick them on top of each - like decoupage - but what's the best item to stick them on top of each other, sticky pads or just think double sided tape?

Any help would be grateful. I have tried the sticky pads but as there are about 7 layers that is going to make it a very thick card to go in the post.

You need the 1mm foam pads and preferably the large ones/roll. If postage is going to be in issue just miss out every other layer.
