Cricut or Craft Robo

Post by magsw on Tue 18 Mar 2008, 8:28 pm

Hi everyone,as a newbie to the forum I wonder if anyone can help? I am looking to get a new die cutting machine BUT.. which, Cricut or Craft Robo? I know each has it's plus points but as I'm not that brill on anything to do with computers I'm thinking the Cricut may be the best for me. I will try to visit C C in Cardiff as soon as I can and maybe I'll be clearer,in the meantime any advice would be good. Thanks Mags. lol!

Hi

I have the CraftRobo and, even though I haven't used it to it's full potential, I think it's a brill little machine as I have used it loads for cutting out names/greetings etc. I think that alone makes it worth the money as you would have to spend thousands to get the same amount of alphabet sets for a traditional die cutter - if they were all available - but I want the Cricut Expression as well but that is just because I like gadgets!

The biggest plus with the robo is that you don't need to buy cartridges for it but it can be quite time consuming learning everything it can do - that being the reason I haven't yet used it to it's full potential - and you do have to have it connected to a pc so it isn't much use if you want a portable machine.

Probably not much help to you, sorrrreeeeee, but as I don't have the Cricut I can't really make any useful comparison, just let you know what I think of the robo.

hi mags

i have the cricut expression and just love it ... it is so easy to work.. the books you get with each of the cartridges have projects in them...
which shows you the functions on each cartridge..

Cricut or Craft Robo

Post by magsw on Wed 19 Mar 2008, 5:02 pm

Thank you for the replies so far.I had already heard the craft robo took quite a while to set up and I can see there are less restrictions with what can be done, but at the moment I am steering towards the cricut. I may be too impatient to spend ages setting up a machine and probably wouldn't use it to it's full potential. Now the design studio for the cricut is available I think it may be the best buy for me. Decision not made yet. ,But thanks, Mags confused

I would say if I was going to have one it would be the expressions just for the fact it does take bigger sheets of card and you can do so much more with it.

Cricut Cricut Expressions and Craft Robo

Post by craftykath on Thu 20 Mar 2008, 12:35 pm

Hello to everyone from a first timer on the forum.

I am lucky enough to have all three of these machines and although the results that the robo can produce are really very good you do have to be computer savvy. The cricut and the cricut expressions are really both very good to and even though you now can purchase software to use with both the machines it is not necessary to use a computer with these. I got my small cricut last April and then bought a robo in October and was fortunate to have the expressions bought as a christmas present. I have used the robo and the results have been excellent but I still love my cricuts and would recommend them to anyone. As I work in the Chester-Le-Street store I get to talk to customers almost every shift. I am so passionate about these machines. I personally think that they are the best on the market but then I am biased I just love them.

To be fair to the robo. This is a great machine too but to me it is a little more time consuming to use whereas with the cricuts you switch on choose whatever you want from your cartridge (s) and cut ........and the idea that you can draw with these machines too is yet another plus for me..................I like quick results........

If I can offer any help to anyone please dont hesitate to contact me I would be more than happy to chat.

Thank you crafty kath for all the info. How lucky you are to have all 3 machines,my daughter has the craft robo and she said the same, but as she lives in Scotland it will be a while before I will be able to have a look at it.I don't know if I can wait till I have seen her to decide. All the reports of cricut machines have been favourable and thank you Tracy, hopefully I will be down to see you in the next few days,if my driver Laughing has any free time. Happy Easter to all. Mags
