encaustic art. help please

I would like to have a go at encaustic art.
It looks so beautiful but I have absolutely no idea how to do it
Would someone be kind enough to answer some questions please

what do I need
how is it done
do I need to be "arty"
is it expensive ( )
is there an online video I can watch
